Seven Injured in Two Vehicle Crash

Seven people went to hospital following a two car crash at the intersection of Routes 6 and 22.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department the crash happened on Wednesday just before 1 p.m., in Southeast, near the border with the village of Brewster.

A Toyota sedan going eastbound on Route 6 tried to turn onto Route 22 and go northbound. The vehicle was then struck broadside by a Toyota minivan heading west on Route 6. The occupants of the sedan were a male driver, two female passengers and a 4 year old boy.

In the minivan were a female driver, a female passenger in a rear seat and a two and a half month old infant. According to the Sheriff’s Department the front seat female passenger in the sedan was critically injured and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. Ambulances transported the other six people to Danbury Hospital, where their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. The infant was ejected from her child-safety seat but not from the vehicle itself.

The crash is the second serious one in Southeast in less than a week as two people were killed on November 14 in a head on collision on Route 22.
