A woman involved in a car accident in Bridgeport causing injuries to her neck, back and leg was recently awarded $115,000 by a jury.
In January 2012, in the early evening, Cintya Sandi-Torres was driving her Toyota along John Street in Bridgeport. She was following a UPS truck that stopped to make a left turn onto Lafayette Boulevard.
She moved to the right in order to pass the truck when Rong Lou driving a Ford Edge sport utility vehicle, tried to turn onto Lafayette Boulevard from John Street. He collided with Sandi-Torres’ car at the intersection near the truck.
Sandi-Torres complained of neck, back and left leg pain and was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital. She was treated for the pain and sent to a chiropractor who assessed her with a 15 percent permanent partial disability rating for her neck and a five percent rating for her back. Sandi-Torres still complains of lingering leg pain.
Her injuries affect her daily life with pain when doing household chores, such as cooking and cleaning and she is no longer able to manage a long haul flight home to Costa Rica.
The trial lasted for two days in September, and following a two hour deliberation the jury awarded her $119,245.
