Woman Serious Injured in Crash

A 35 year old woman from Bridgeport, Connecticut, suffered head trauma and a fractured hip on Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident.

According to State Police, Marie D. Rene was traveling on the ramp from Interstate 684 northbound to Interstate 84 eastbound. She lost control of her sport utility vehicle, a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe, near the end of the ramp, causing her vehicle to leave the ramp and enter the grass divider which separates the entry ramp from the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84. She then hit a ditch, became airborne and landed on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 where she collided with a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck. The Chevrolet spun onto the south shoulder of the highway and then left the roadway. Rene’s vehicle then crossed the eastbound lanes, entered the center median of the highway and rolled over. Rene was not wearing a seat belt and so was ejected from the vehicle and onto the center median.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured and Rene was transported by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition late Tuesday night.

Police said that I 84 was closed for part of the afternoon to allow the helicopter to land and to carry out the investigation.
