Young Woman Dies in Single Vehicle Crash

A 23 year old Avon woman from Avon has died following an early morning crash.

According to state police, the accident happened at around 2 a.m. on Route 219. Four people were inside a 2000 Toyota Camry heading south on Route 219, or Town Hill Road, near the intersection with Hoppon Road. The car then veered across the center line, into the northbound lane, hit a mailbox then continued off the road and crashed into two trees.

Marisssa Offsay was a rear passenger in the car and was trapped following the crash. She had to be cut free by firefighters and was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, where she died.

A second rear passenger, 23 year old Jessica Ann Morse, of New Hartford, was ejected out of the rear window and was flown to Hartford Hospital with internal injuries.

The driver, 28 year old James A. Laboy, of Winsted and the front seat passenger, 27 year old John M. Auclair, of New Hartford, were both taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with minor injuries.

The state police accident reconstruction unit is investigating the crash but it appears that the road may have been icy at the time of the accident.
